Either give your toddler a fork or a hand whisk to mix the eggs and milk together. This is always my kids’s favourite part and a great first job in the kitchen for any tiny chef. If you want to make a sweet french toast, get your kids to add the vanilla and cinnamon at this point as well. You don’t need to be too accurate so most kids should be able to do this job. If you’ve got very young children, you might want to measure this in yourself, otherwise, give your kids a tablespoon and either pour some milk into it, or pour the milk into a cup and let them spoon it into your egg mixture. You just need enough milk to loosen the mixture a little – a table spoon or two should do the trick. Kids kids would just dump it on the counter otherwise, so having a bowl handy saves a bit of mess! I also find it helpful to have a small bowl nearby to pop the brocken shell into. With a bit of practice my kids have become quite good at this but if a bit of shell does slip in I just use a larger bit to fish it out (shell sticks better to shell than it does your finger). Once it starts to crack they can push their fingers in and crack it open. Get your toddler to gently tap the egg on the rim of the bowl. With only a few steps, it’s a quick and easy dish that any child would be proud to serve up. Older children, who can be trusted around a cooker, can make this whole dish for themselves (with a little supervision). Young kids can help crack and whisk the eggs, and dip their bread in the egg mixture. This eggy bread recipe is such an easy dish for kids to make. My kids wouldn’t eat egg when they were younger, but they seemed to like this baked egg as the ‘eggyiness’ is a little less strong. It’s a great weening finger food, and good for children who aren’t too sure about egg. We’ve eaten eggy bread since our kids were tiny. Simply add 1/2 tsp of cinnamon and 1/2 tsp of vanilla extract to your milk then serve it with some fruit or maple syrup or jam. We normally serve it as a savoury dish at lunchtime, but it’s easy to turn into something sweet for a delicious brunch. If your kids want to cook something but are beginners in the kitchen, this easy eggy bread (or frech toast) is a great place to start.Įggy bread, or french toast is one of our favourite quick lunches, and an easy recipe for kids to make either themselves or with a little supervision.
